Moving on to day 3 of my European adventures. To my dismay, it was our last day in Cologne. Actually, more like last hour, as we got up at the crack of dawn (Fine, I’m exaggerating, but 6am during the summer sure feels like it!) and we loaded our suitcases in the car, ready for the day’s event and what they’ll unfold. The next stop on our itinerary was Amsterdam, which was 3 hours away. You know how some people say ‘time flies when you’re having fun’? Well, if you’re spending 3 hours (More like 4 since we got lost several times) and you can’t stretch your legs fully, it’s easily a bad experience. But, thankfully due to my crazy and rambunctious family, we spent the entire car ride listening to the hits of the 90’s (curtesy of my mom), fun facts about our overlooking ancestors (obviously my dad), curse words I didn’t even know existed (my brother’s a senior, so it cancels out?) and what happened in episode 25 of Peppa Pig (my sister’s lord and savior). I was too busy wishing staring out the window and pretending I was in a dramatic music video, because who doesn’t do that?
Getting back on track, after a lengthy car ride, which gave us all a headache, we finally arrived in Amsterdam. Fun fact about Amsterdam, most of their houses tend to be leaning sideways and crooked as a majority of them was were drilled in the 17th century, and it’s stayed completely the same. But if you do buy a house there, don’t go for the attic, unless you want the whole house tumbling down. As one of the biggest cities in Holland, along with Rotterdam, there tends to be a larger populated distribution of tourists and residents. But what I didn’t know was how closely everyone was as a community, as the workers, shopkeepers and hotel management staff (more on that later) are some of the sweetest, most genuine people alive.
I’m sorry, I’m constantly getting side-tracked, only because I love travel and my brain is always spewing with remarks and topics I want to talk about and share, but moving back to the many fact, we checked into Mosaic Hotel, located in the Museum Quarter, a generally open and touristy area. Due to us running a little over time, we checked into the hotel online and were escorted immediately into our room, once again our family did share one room, but it had a helpful layout where it had the illusion of two rooms without a conspicuous partition, including 3 beds (1 king, 2 singles, and a pullout couch).
And that wraps up our first day in Amsterdam! I know it was a bit of a short day, but all we really did was look for a close by restaurant, which we found. It was this amazing restaurant called ‘Burger Fabriek’ and might I say, the food was absolutely delicious! And we really did nothing else; we went back to our hotel and chilled out until it was time to sleep. I doubt my parents wanted to do anything after that insanely long car ride. Anyways, good night, I need to sleep.
